A little less than a week ago, the experts of the Pantone Institute presented us with the colour of the year. The colour Viva Magenta, which they interpreted as powerful, empowering and joyful. Of course, this colour will become one of the trendy colours not only in web design or on the catwalks, but also in interiors.
But like any trend, it is worth using the colour in the right way. How? We asked the designers.
1. turn to noble textures in textiles
The designer recommends using this colour in combination with sophisticated textures. “Magenta will work well in interiors as textiles: velvet curtains, which can be complemented by gold tassels or fringe, upholstery, decorative cushions, bedspreads. The noble and luxurious feel of this colour will make its use in deep sophisticated textures. Apart from velvet, this is corduroy or velour,” says the designer.
2. use it in English style
The English style is austere and moderately classic. Wood, muted colours (deep green, brown and red shades, the latter includes Viva Magenta). It’s also not uncommon to use patterned wallpaper and textiles with prints such as checkerboard and nature scenes in such interiors.
“The colour will look great with other ‘dense’ and rich finishing elements. For example, in combination with rich floral or animalistic wallpaper in the style of William Morris. Gold accessories, vintage pieces, gold framed paintings or graphic elements can also enhance and complement the colour.
3. Complement bright interiors
Designers call the colour ‘active and sophisticated’. And she says it is for the brave. Her recommendation is to use it in combination with similarly saturated, sophisticated shades so as not to lose the charm of the shade.
If you want a vibrant, unconventional interior, the colour can be combined with orange, yellow, blue, turquoise and pink for greater effect.
4. or as an accent in a monochrome interior
Calm interiors in neutral light shades – a base you want to refresh with bright colours such as Viva Magenta.
The key is to decide for yourself just how close to the colour you want and how long you’re willing to live with it. If you don’t want to create a saturated interior, you can use the shade as a colour accent in a monochrome, calm space. Use it in a limited way. Textiles, accessories, accent colours (which are now gaining in popularity) can easily be replaced in the future, and change the mood of the interior.
