When storing handbags, it’s not only important to arrange them ergonomically and visually, but also to make everything look nice. Vertical and horizontal hooks, organisers and dividers, baskets and individual shelves – tell us about the different ways to store your accessories in this article.
1. Hanging furniture organiser
The standard hanging organiser, available from various home improvement shops, can be used for both large and small bags. The large ones take up the whole section, while the small ones can be grouped together. Several issues are solved with this type of organiser. Firstly, horizontal surfaces under clothing are not occupied, which is convenient. Secondly, the accessories are in view. To save wardrobe space, look for narrow organisers and place your bags sideways in them.

Idea: It’s best to use shallow shelves – there’s no point in pushing the handbags far in, and if you put them in the front, the space at the back will either be cluttered or empty.
2. Use shelf dividers
If you have a lot of handbags, clutches and purses, put them on 1 to 3 shelves in your wardrobe or cloakroom system. Smaller handbags can be stored conveniently using a rack divider like the one pictured here. This way, the fittings won’t get tangled and storage will be more visible.

3. Put the bags in an open shelving unit
This method can be more than just about practicality. In the example in the photo, for example, the hostess added accessories to the shelves in addition to the bags, and turned an ordinary shelving unit into an attractive decorative display case. The method is particularly suitable for large bags and those that are worn regularly – then they won’t get dusty in open storage. But it is quite possible to place several bags in the same compartment and use dusters for rarely used models. Bags can be grouped by colour, style, brand or season.

4. Place vertically in a box or basket
As you can see from the photo, this method is more for miniature, flat bags. If you don’t have a lot of bags and want maximum orderliness, use dividers (not included in the example). The basket or box can be kept at the bottom of a normal wardrobe, in a cloakroom or in a shelving unit near the entrance area.

5. Or stacked on top of each other
An alternative is to store bags in the same way in baskets, but horizontally. This method is suitable for soft textile bags (shoppers, purses, children’s handbags). Because they are more practical than aesthetically pleasing, storage visibility is less of an issue.

6. Hang the hooks inside the cabinet or on the door
Big bags with short handles won’t work, but if you have mostly small models with long straps, it’s ideal: The bags are easy to see and reach and take up minimal space. You can position it anywhere you like: on the inside wall or a cupboard door, on the outer side panel or simply on the wall of your wardrobe. Relevant for small or medium-sized quantities, up to approx. 6-7 pieces.

7. Use a horizontal hanger
The alternative to the previous method is the horizontal coat rack. All kinds of bags can be hung on the hooks, but it’s especially good for textiles and beach bags. Hats and umbrellas can also be stored there.

8. Install a mini chest of drawers in the hallway
Take the example of the hallway in the photo, where the dresser has organised a separate nook with everything you need when you leave the house, including bags. This is a great idea for people who regularly carry different bags, and they all need to be on hand. Less stable models can be secured with dividers, while larger ones won’t need this. Laptop or tablet cases can also be conveniently stored here – simply stack them on a separate shelf.

9. Position the bottom of the floor rack with the clothes
The method is compromise – under your clothes, also close to the floor, the accessories will quickly become dusty. However, if there are only a few of them (3-4) and they are worn regularly, keeping them this way is acceptable. Another pro argument is that by placing the bags alongside the shoes and clothes, it’s easy to put together ready-made looks, saving time and effort when getting ready in the morning.
